Wave Neuroscience Featured in Yahoo Health

Yahoo Health recently featured Wave Neuroscience and MeRT® in its coverage of new, drug-free approaches to treating PTSD.
Why it matters
PTSD affects an estimated 13 million Americans, including veterans, first responders, and survivors of trauma. Yet treatment options remain limited; the FDA has approved only two medications for PTSD, and many people don’t find lasting relief from existing therapies.
A personalized approach
MeRT takes a different approach. Before treatment, a brief, non-invasive EEG measures each patient’s unique brain activity. The MeRT System uses that data to guide personalized transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) tailored to the individual. Rather than applying the same settings to everyone, MeRT starts with the person’s own brain.
The evidence
In Wave’s randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial, patients receiving MeRT saw an average 27-point improvement on the PCL-5, a standard measure of PTSD symptom severity.
“More importantly, we saw 68% remission in our clinical trial,”
said Dr. Erik Won, Wave’s Chief Medical Officer.
The research was supported by investigators at Texas A&M University, including Dr. Israel Liberzon.
MeRT is FDA-cleared as an adjunctive treatment for adults with PTSD.
